Noriko Kishi

Cellist Noriko Kishi earned her bachelor’s at the Eastman School of Music and her master’s at the New England Conservatory. Her principal teachers were Irene Sharp, Robert Sylvester, and Bernard Greenhouse. Formerly Principal Cellist and featured soloist with the New World Symphony, she was a member of the Sacramento Symphony from 1994-1996, and performed regularly with the Utah Symphony from 2001-2015. Noriko has performed with many notable conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Georg Solti, and Seiji Ozawa, and participated in masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma, and members of the Quarneri and Cleveland Quartets. She was a Fellow at Tanglewood and participated in the Aspen, Spoleto (USA and Italy), Colorado, and Moab Music Festivals. A strong advocate of contemporary music, Ms. Kishi has dedicated more than two decades to performing the works of living composers both in the Bay Area and Salt Lake City. From 2015-18, she was the Artist in Residence for the Salty Cricket Composers Collective, premiering solo and chamber works by Utah composers. She also served as general manager for the Nova Chamber Music Series from 2004-2010. A native of San Francisco, Noriko taught at the San Francisco School of the Arts, the San Francisco Community Music Center, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Preparatory Department. In Utah, she has been on the faculty of the University of Utah Preparatory Division, taught for a semester at BYU Idaho, and teaches privately.
